Repeal of AB 1887 Travel Restrictions
Sent to All UCI Employees (Campus, Medical Center, and College of Health Sciences) on Oct. 11, 2023
The UC Office of the President recently updated UC Policy G-28: Travel Regulations to reflect the repeal of California Government Code 11139.8 (AB 1887). With this change, campus business travelers may once again be reimbursed with state funds for travel to the 24 states formerly restricted under AB 1887. This change is effective with a date of Sept. 13, 2023.
Assembly Bill 1887 was passed in 2017 and restricted the use of state funds for travel to states that passed laws that authorized discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. Governor Newsom signed Senate Bill 447 last month ending the ban on state-funded travel to the states previously listed on the California Attorney Generals website.
